THE SHORT ANSWER

Measure buckle pin to the hole you wear.

KERVELAN sizes refer to the fourth (center) hole, with three adjustment holes on either side.

Measure a belt that already fits

  1. Lay a comfortable belt flat without stretching it.
  2. Start the tape at the buckle pin, not the outside edge of the buckle.
  3. Measure to the hole you normally wear, not the tip of the strap.
  4. Compare the distance in inches with the KERVELAN size chart and the sizes available for your chosen style.

Your current belt's favorite hole does not have to be its center hole. For KERVELAN, the labeled size is the distance from the buckle pin to the fourth (center) hole.

No belt? Measure over your clothing

Put on the jeans or trousers you plan to wear. Thread a flexible tape through the belt loops at the waistband's actual position and measure comfortably snug, over any tucked-in clothing.

Higher-rise trousers and lower-rise denim can give different measurements. If you plan to wear the same belt with both, measure each position.

How the seven holes work

KERVELAN standard single-prong belts use seven holes spaced 1 inch apart. Three holes sit on either side of the center hole, giving approximately ±3 inches of adjustment around the labeled belt size.

Size 34 example Pin-to-hole distance Approx. cm
First hole 31 in 78.7 cm
Fourth / center 34 in 86.4 cm
Seventh hole 37 in 94.0 cm

This is a calculated example, not a photograph of a measured sample. For comfortable everyday adjustment, aim to fasten near the center rather than relying on an end hole.

Choose an available size

Select the KERVELAN size closest to your measured distance. If you are exactly halfway between two available sizes, the size guide recommends the larger one. Check the specific product's available sizes and colors before ordering.

Length and width are different: sizing determines fit; strap width determines proportion. Compare them in the Belt Width Guide.
